Trustee recruitment

It can be difficult for small charities to recruit enough trustees with the skills, drive and commitment needed. At our recent Trustees Networking Event we took a closer look at trustee recruitment and were able to introduce some very enthusiastic potential volunteers to existing trustees looking to recruit more people to their boards. You can read a blog about the event here. Please click the links below to access resources from the evening:

  • An overview of what trustees do and how to recruit them
  • The 12 essential roles of a trustee board
  • Some tips for those interested in joining a trustee board
  • Trustee role descriptions and adverts
  • Portals and websites to advertise trustee vacancies
  • And some more
  • A guide to appointing and inducting trustees

For advice and support on trustee recruitment please contact Aparna on 020 3778 0663 or click here to email her.

Other resources

The charity Getting on board promotes the value of board level volunteering and has produced a short video about what trustees can gain from it.

LinkedIn specialist groups such as Charity Finance and Governance UK; Charity Finance; Charity UK; UK Charity Trustees; Charity Network UK; Young Charity Trustees, are also a good place to look.

NCVO is the National Council for Voluntary Organisations that supports voluntary and community organisations through events and training, advice, information, supplier discounts and resources. Trustee vacancies can be advertised free for NCVO members in Trustee Bank, which helps potential trustees find you. NCVO members can also register for Step on Board which trains and places experienced professionals onto charity boards as trustees. Small charities with income under £30,000 can join NCVO for free - see www.ncvo.org.uk/join

And all charities can register trustee vacancies for free with Charity Job
