Lewisham crowdfunding projects get a boost from £200k pot

04 Oct 2016 Funding

On 28 September Esmée Fairbairn Foundation launched a new funding pot of £200,000 to support crowdfunding projects in Lewisham, Hull and Manchester.

The injection of funds will enable people and organisations interested in crowdfunding projects that bring the community together using the arts, culture, food or green spaces to apply for pledges to their campaign on Spacehive.com.

Individuals could receive a pledge of up to £2,500, while organisations could receive up to £15,000 for projects that fit the criteria.
Crowdfunding is a new area for Esmee Fairbairn, one of the largest grant-making trusts in the UK, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for people and communities by funding organisations with ideas and the ability to achieve positive change.
The move also puts crowdfunding firmly on the map for the borough as a way of generating income for community projects. Last year the council piloted crowdfunding for its Small grants programme with some success, using Spacehive.com
We've planned some support and training to help more organisations interested in exploring or pursuing this and other forms of fundraising in the run-up to #GivingTuesday, a major UK campaign encouraging people to give to charities on Tuesday 29 November 2016.
