Business planning for non-profits
As funding cuts bite, even charities and community groups who have depended on grants in the past are realising that thinking like a social enterprise is the best approach to a sustainable future. And social enterprises that have already taken on the challenge of seeking to achieve both profit and social purpose recognise that a typical commercial business plan doesn’t adequately communicate their passion and values.
Whether you’re a new social enterprise, or a voluntary organisation wanting to move towards a more sustainable mix of funding, this course will help you design a practical plan for your organisation that will guide your progress towards your goals. Writing a business plan that is based on a social enterprise model will help any VCSE organisation communicate confidently and persuasively with potential funders and other stakeholders. It will also challenge you to translate your income-generating ideas into reality.
This course will help you:
- define vision and values for your organisation and appreciate what makes you stand out from the crowd
- decide on your direction of travel, taking into account both external factors and internal strengths
- translate your vision into clear aims and objectives that will form the foundation of outcomes-based delivery plans
- understand the financial underpinnings of your plan and how to present them.
Attendees will be invited to a follow up peer support session to review progress.
Who is this event for?
Those who are at the point of setting up a social enterprise will have the chance to commit ideas to paper and get started. Those who are already established can take a fresh look at how they communicate their purpose and how they will fund it. Organisations that are not used to defining themselves as businesses can learn how social enterprise principles may help them create a more sustainable future.
