VAL exists to support and strengthen the voluntary and community sector in Lewisham, for the benefit of Lewisham's citizens. Our key tasks are:

1. To build the capacity of voluntary and community organisations to:

• deliver effective, efficient, high quality services
• empower local communities to make decisions about and accept responsibility for matters that affect them
• work in cooperation and partnership with other agencies that share their values and aspirations.

2. To promote active community engagement to:

• strengthen the democratic processes in the borough
• increase participation in the decision-making processes in the borough
• promote community cohesion
• strengthen the voice of Lewisham’s citizens
• engage in Lewisham’s Community Development Strategy
