Principles of Fundraising III

Funding Stages

The range of steps undertaken during the fundraising process can be better managed by grouping each step into a number of stages. Here is an example of a four-stage approach:

Prepare for funding

  1. Research and planning
  2. Prepare the application
  3. Follow-up (once the application has been sent off)
  4. Monitoring and evaluation

To prepare for funding, your organisation will usually need:

  1. A management committee
  2. A governing document (e.g. constitution or memorandum and articles of association)
  3. A bank account (with at least two unrelated signatories)
  4. A record of your annual accounts
  5. Equal opportunities, safeguarding (child protection), and health and safety policies (where applicable). These are the minimum policies you may need.
