Principles of Fundraising II

The 10-Step approach

Successful fundraising requires plenty of planning. To help improve your grant-getting skills, LVSC have identified ten key steps in the process. These steps include:

Step 1: Outline the project idea

Step 2: Develop the detail

Step 3: Talk to people/initial funder research

Step 4: Research need

Step 5: Identify values and track record

Step 6: Identify resources

Step 7: Write a budget

Step 8: Identify funding

Step 9: Research funders in detail

Step 10: Complete the application

Please note that if your application is successful, you will need to add another step to the process and complete monitoring and evaluation reports for funders, your organisation or other key stakeholders.

It is also important to consider how much time will be needed to make an application. A good application can take 3 months from the initial idea to hearing the outcome. An application for large sums of money can take much longer.
