In conjunction with the CVS in Southwark, we will be organising a Health and Wellbeing event,

“Health and Wellbeing Event – the challenges of health inequalities.”

Health and Social Care Forum - 5 October

 Community Health and Social Care Forum

The Community Health and Social Care Forum (CHSCF) is a quarterly forum that brings together voluntary and community organisations with an interest in health and social care. The aims of the forum are to:

  • ImagePromote good practice, expertise and raise awareness of issues
  • Consult with the sector about changes to health and social care services
  • Give voluntary organisations the chance to respond to issues with a united voice
  • Enable staff from voluntary and statutory agencies to network
  • Provide opportunities for collaborative working
  • Ensure accountability and openness in planning of services.

Meeting for Potential and Existing Voluntary Sector Reps

VAL is arranging a meeting for existing and potential VCS reps on the LSP, the 6 thematic boards that report to the LSP, and the various subgroups that sit below the thematic boards.

VAL staff will facilitate the event and we will also have a number of presentations from council officers. The meeting will take place on:

Thursday 15 September, 9.30 – 12.30pm, at St Laurence Centre.

Further information will be available shortly, but it will be an opportunity to discuss and learn about the work of the boards, the role of voluntary sector reps, and reporting arrangements.

Warwick Tomsett – Head Commissioning & Christine Grice – Head of Access and Support will be formally launching the consultation on the Early Intervention Service and highlighting the commissioning opportunities for the Voluntary and Community Sector who work with children and young people in Lewisham. There will also be 4 workshops on the day that will discuss this in more detail as well as cover how VCS groups can evidence outcomes better, coming together more as consortiums, and finally building relationships with the private sector. Breakfast and Lunch will be included.

Transforming the Community Equipment Service

Transforming the Community Equipment Service

Lewisham is currently looking at transforming the way in which community equipment is provided locally, and is considering various options including the Retail Model for Simple Aids to Daily Living.
The project manager will like all interested stakeholders to fully participate in this options project and will like to set up an Involvement Group which will look at the options, give feedback on and approve those to be submitted to the Council/NHS boards for a decision.

After a successful initial community engagement event on the 25th of February 2011, I am pleased to announce 2 further workshops on the Transforming Community Equipment Service Options in Lewisham.

The details are as follows:

Workshop 1:
Date:   Wednesday the 16th of March 2011

Time: 10.30am to 12.30 pm

We will be discussing in greater detail the options that were introduced on the 25th and attendees will be scoring the options.

1. Current Provider Options
a. Remain As is and extend for 2 years
b. Remain with current provider, but negotiate improvements
c. Remain with current provider, negotiate improvements, and take proactive steps to encourage self-funding.
2. Go out to Tender by ourselves
3. Work with other neighbouring borough(s)
4. Direct payments/individual budgets
5. Retail Model and variations of the model

Help Improve Local Health Services

Help Improve Local Health Services
Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust, which includes Lewisham Hospital and health services in the community, is applying to become a Foundation Trust to improve health services and give local people more of a say in how services are run.
Joining the Trust will mean you will be able to have your say on how local services are provided.  It is totally free, and it is up to you how involved you want to be.
We are holding two public drop-in events which you may like to attend to find out more:

Thursday 10 March, University Hospital Lewisham
Come anytime between 3-6pm.  The stop smoking team will be there for advice on how to kick the habit.  The event is in the Lessoff Auditorium, University Hospital Lewisham, Lewisham High Street, London SE13 6LH.

Tuesday 12 April, Waldron Health Centre
Come anytime between 2pm and 5pm for a free health check at the Waldron Health Centre, Stanley Street, New Cross, London SE8 4BS

Warwick Tomsett (Head of Commissioning) and Christine Grice (Head of Access and Support) will be giving an update on funding from Lewisham’s CYP Directorate following the Spending Review settlement, as well as Sandra Jones (Head of the Community Sector Unit) on opportunities to apply to Lewisham’s new grants programme. We will also be hearing from the Challenge on the rolling out the National Citizenship Service in Lewisham and the London Consortium for Learning on opportunities and support for the VCS to offer apprenticeships. Finally there will advice from UNISON’s Community & Voluntary Organisations Branch on the benefits of joining a Trade Union.

There will also be 3 workshops on the day that will discuss these themes in more detail as well as an opportunity to discuss how to support Lewisham's Child Poverty reduction strategy.
